Ohh Laa Lah
For some reason this bassline sounds extremely sexy to me. The way that it bounces up and down left and right, it moves like a woman walks. Aside from the amazing bassline, I love the "chiggy chiggy" that comes right after the Ohh Laa Lah. I sing along to this track while doing my daily chores, like washing dishes, making my bed, etc. The pace of the ohh's and laa's are in perfect stride of physical activities. I suppose I should consider dancing to it too! Enjoy!

To The End
This track is so silky sexy smooth I almost can't handle it. The slow and emotional lyrics flow beautifully out of the speakers. The song creates a hazy and sensual feeling, though the song is very vulnerable and intimate. Enjoy!

Love You In The Dark
This track is dark, smoky, and sexy. I love the slowed down pace, and the auto-tune vocals don't cause me to roll my eyes with thoughts of too much auto-tune, they work here. Sombear gets real honest here, but seems to maintain his coolness while opening up and becoming vulnerable. Enjoy!

Select Sundays: Don't Give Up
I've featured Whitest Boy Alive before, and it seems like a lot of the time when I hear a great soothing track in this indie mellow style, it's Erlend Øye yet again! So here's another gem that I can't help sharing with everyone to cruise to, or just to smooth out and enjoy the ride.

On My Brain
If someone were to tell me the hook of this song in conversation, "on my brain, on my brain" I would most likely have cringed. But sometimes you gotta see it to believe it, and I believe it! This track is so infections, and the hook works perfectly. The song has a unique beauty to it, the song can carry at high volume like in a major club, or on your iPhone earbuds. I've been singing along to this track and hearing it in mixtapes all over the place, which shows that I'm not the only one who thinks the track is huge. Enjoy!

Pyramid
I love when he says "let's echo echo". There's something so descriptive that comes to mind as he sings that over and over, but the line is so short and succinct. The electric guitar adds quite a bit of color the the track, especially at the beginning with a colorful waterfall-ing sound. Enjoy!

Can't Hide
I admit, I hated this when I first heard it. I was never a fan of the CeCe Peniston track that came out in the 90's, so why would I like this one? Well, I love it. Maybe it's the way that the "finally" is layered atop itself? Or am I enamored by the infectiously deep house groove? Either way this refreshing take on a 90's moment is done so well that it won me over big time. Enjoy!

Royals
Since the beginning of my personal experience with music, the glorification of material objects has been one of the most common themes. I love how Lorde says "we crave a different kind of buzz". The track is composed in the same vein, being extremely stripped down. Aside from the drum machine and a few synth notes you've got her voice and some snaps rounding out the track. Enjoy!

When The Music's Loud
I may have had a crush on DJ Colette since the moment I laid eyes on her. I was at a small LA club on the West Side. She was spinning great tunes, singing beautifully over the tunes, and she wasn't so tough on the eyes either. This track from her is a different sound than the one she introduced herself to me with, but it is smashing. I love her vocal hook and the big bass on this track. Enjoy!

Select Sundays: Rebel
Look, I understand that the appeal of this song is the sample from The Crystals "He's a Rebel." I don't care, it's still super catchy. And after watching the very recommended documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, I learned that Darlene Love and her backing group, The Blossoms, actually sang this song, not The Crystals. Woowhee! Also, it seems like ripping from Sixties songs is G-Eazy's thing -- see "Runaround Sue" -- but it's pretty hit or miss. This one though, I can't get enough of it.

Everybody But Me
The timing of when a song is released vs. the timing of when a song comes into your life can have no correlation. I heard this song years after its release, but for some reason right now it grabs my attention more than any time I've heard it. The song is about being a party recluse, not wanting to indulge when everyone else can't get enough, and I seem to be going through a parallel phase in my life. I love her delivery, that cute Swedish voice of hers, and her repetitive lyrics that don't get tiring. She's letting me know that you don't need to follow everyone if you know what you want. Enjoy!

All That You Do
HUGE!! This song floors me. Things sure take their time to get going, and a minute into the song I'm left thinking that this track is rather minimal with some amazing vocals. It isn't until nearly 4 minutes deep into the track that I'm slammed to the ground by this song. My limited grasp of the english language can't prepare you for that moment. Just be sure to turn the volume up. Enjoy!

The vocals on La Plage's song are so incredibly cute I'm not sure what to do with myself. The track is ready to be added to your summer 2013 playlist and jammed during all things sunshine involved. Enjoy!

Please Don't Say You Love Me
This track is beautiful. The vocal sample reminds me of Ben Watt and Tracy Thorn's band Everything but the Girl. The track is heavy and dark, while feeling vulnerable at the same time. I love the magic that Cyril Hahn has put on this track, as I prefer the remix to the original. Even after multiple listens I'm amazed with how much momentum the song picks up. Enjoy!

Cool Like Me
"You can be anything you wanna be,
You can be cool, cool like me"
Sometimes you need a song that has some attitude. This track has a French feel to it, or maybe I'm thinking that any song now that has something with being cool is French. But there no question that the song is cool, and there's no question that when I sing along I too feel cool. Enjoy!

Kleines Bubu
I discovered Paul Kalkbrenner via his now two year old BBC Radio1 Essential Mix. I love his production, the use of sounds and the clear picture he paints with emotions. I have listened to the Essential mix a good handful of times, usually when I need motivation and concentration. This track in particular is lighthearted, there's a story to this song sung by the multiple stringed instruments. Enjoy!

Run on Love
Earlier this week I blogged about Tove Lo, who I've been playing on repeat since I heard her. This potential super summer anthem smash features her vocals. This song captures the elements that Calvin Harris and David Guetta have been made famous for, so I'd be surprised to not hear this on TV and radio in the upcoming months. There is a fun music video to go along with this song as well, link. Enjoy!

White Lies
There's a throwback style to this song, perhaps the thin old microphone sound of the vocals or the simplicity of the instrumentation and heavy use of background vocals. The song kills it. It's fast paced, upbeat tempo with a sepia tint to it adds some flavor to the pop. Enjoy!

Habits
Hearing the opening lines of this song won me over instantly.
"I eat my dinner in my bathtubAnd then I heard the chorus "I gotta stay high, all the time, to keep you off my mind". The execution of this song is spot on. Her overwhelming sadness can only be dealt with by constant substance abuse escape, which obviously isn't sustainable, but being in the 'play pretend' is the only viable option with sadness this great. If you haven't been in this position yourself, you've at one point been able to relate to someone who has fallen into the downward spiral that "Habits" describes. Enjoy!

Gangsta Lean
I remember a song titled "Gangsta Lean" by D.R.S. And that song is nothing like this one (check it on YouTube if you aren't familiar). This track is all in the bassline, and I mean all in the bassline. When it hits you know it, and there's nothing more necessary. Stomping feet and clapping hands, that's what it's all about! Though, there is a point where I almost expect the Ghost Busters to make an appearance, but that could just be me. Enjoy!

COOL
This song captures what's cool right now. The nu-80's beat, a bit of muted laser lights, and that vocal hook is enormous. I'm ready to throw on a swimming suit and sit under an umbrella in the sand with my ray bans on. Initially I wanted this song to be a bit faster, as in higher BPM. But a few listens deep and I wouldn't change a thing. I mean, there's even a small little 'rap' section! Enjoy!

Bicycle
This pretty sounding and uplifting chord progression shares a rather sad and emotional message. I love how the percussion comes like a flash storm, thunder roaring and lightning striking towards the end. And that's it for the lyrics, the percussion making a roaring entrance after those lyrics does a fine job of finishing the track off. Enjoy!

Love Me Tonight
This bumpin' track has a nice electric attitude to go along with the huge bass. The song sings about needing someone else, and the desire to fill that need, though with this song and a dance floor I'd need nothing else, save for maybe a fresh drink from the bar. Enjoy!

Little Sines
For lack of a better word, this is a cute song. I don't think that 'cute' was the intent, but as I've continued to listen that's my impression. There are other feelings that arise when I hear this song. But I can't help feeling that emotion that you get when watching the end of a movie by the same creators of the film "Juno". You know, at the end when everything miraculously works out in a happy, quirky, yet lovable fashion. This song soundtracks that moment for me. Enjoy!
