Vinyl Saturdays: Shoo Be Do

I picked up this gem from the local thrift store, and was feeling the island vibe right up until I did a quick google search on the band. They're from Kansas City?! Hey, the more obscure the better I say! I love how this song puts a smile across my face. The track is fun to sing along to, it's the kind of jam you dance to with gentle rhythm but strong feeling. Enjoy!

Keep You

I just got back from Vegas. My body and brain are still hanging in recovery mode. This is a track that helps me get back to real life. The laid back melody and dancehall vibe put my body at ease while still keeping my ears happy. Enjoy!

Hey Ho

The percussion grabs my attention right away, the bubbly bongos shifting from right to left. I love the twangy middle-eastern sounding strings that meld so well with the dub island vibe of this song. Upon first listen I labeled this song as a decent track -that's when the distortion hit! That powerful move really kicks the song up a notch, and made me fall in love with the track. Enjoy!

Lithium

You know it when you hear it, but you haven't heard it like this. Take nirvana to the beach.  Little Roy has composed an album of Nirvana covers, this is my favorite. The ska element, with brass instruments, gives the song an upbeat happy-go-lucky feeling. To me Roy's voice has a rasp that only older voices have, and it does a fantastic job translating the pain of this song in a somewhat non-painful way. Enjoy!
