This Last Year

Just like everyone has a "feminine side", I'm a firm believer that everyone has a "rock and roll side" that they need to get in touch with.  This Last Year gets me in touch with my rock and roll side in a way that no song has done for loner than I can remember. The song is comprised of rage, regret, remorse, and reflection. I'm grabbed by the ups and downs, the large swing from composed to top of the lungs carries my emotions right with it. Enjoy!

This amazingly rough and stripped down sounds hits the nail on the head. Lyrics from the left channel, guitar from the right, create a vivid image.  There are too many insanely great lines written in this song, normally I'd choose my favorite and write them out, but I'd end up writing the entire song for this go-round, so I'll leave it at that. Unknown Bonus Song

This week I described a song as being something Quentin Tarantino would use in a film.  Well, I may have to take that comment back and apply it to this track.  The three guitar notes that open the song have movies like Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, and Pulp Fiction written all over them. The classic sound of this song spans the last 1/2 century, not a simple feat as music is highly susceptible to fad influences. Enjoy!

There is something magnetic about the original 'rock' formula. This is a song that you wake up to with a mean hangover and the most extreme case of bed head this hemisphere has seen since 1976.  The sound is kick-ass rock and roll core with a sharp indie edge. The guitars compete healthily with the screeching vocals, and the distortion wins over all. Enjoy!

Jimmie's Still Jimmie

Guitar... Voice... Drums... Check!  This song uses a simple and very un-original formula. But when music is done right, everyone and anyone just knows. And this, is a track that's done right.
I love love love the "ohh la la la la la la" background vocals, which again is probably THE most unoriginal background vocal -but it's oh so good. The lyrics are witty, entertaining, and fantastic to sing along with.

Always Where I Need To Be

Last night I was lucky enough to catch the Kooks live, it was their last day in the United States.  Needless to say my expectations were surpassed. Luke's voice sounds just as good if not better live vs recorded, and his energy is amazing.  In the middle of the set it was just Luke on stage performing 'Seaside', the 16 year old girl in me melted.

This song was the 2nd on their playlist, and really set the tone for the night. Enjoy!
