Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See

I take my 90's rap very seriously. I cut my music-fan teeth on the stuff, and Busta Rhymes was a heavy influence to me. His verse in Scenario, to this day I have to sing along.  So I was extremely skeptical when I saw this remix. Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See is a brilliant track, with both verses holding the same end rhyme - and don't get me started on that video, and it's homage to Coming To America, another life shaping piece of art for my life.

Which brings me to this remix. I love the slowed down, heavy and slightly dirty beat to this remix. The added electronic colors are a perfect compliment to the smoky groove. Enjoy!

Singing In The Rain

I'm not sure if this remix was made in order to create this commercial, but I am sure that this remix is awesome. There's a modern twist on an old classic, and it's done with great taste. Enjoy!

Breathing Underwater

This fun little ditty brings back a new life to Metric's song. I love the electronic organ that hits you like a tidal wave when she sings "Is this my life?". The original track is already great, and touching a great song for a remix is no easy feat. The sounds that MNDR used to recreate this track are fun and bouncy, hearing it at the beginning of spring makes me yearn for that summer weather. Enjoy!

Take A Walk

I get excited when I see the words (Classixx Remix) behind a song title, and this is a prime example why. The song has been completely retooled, toned down a few notches, and given completely new life. It has a humble epicness to it, it's understated and poised all while being a complete stand out.

None Of Dem

I keep changing my mind about what it is that I like about Robyn so much. Do I like her independent I-don't-need-you-attitude, her cute yet strong sounding voice, or is it her raw and catchy melodies? Standouts for me are that small giggle after "None of these drugs, get me high", and "None of these beats are raw, none of these beats ever break the law".  I continue to love the Robyn songs that cross my path. This remix has an especially nice danceability to it. Enjoy!

White Knuckles

I never noticed this Ok Go track in its original form, but this remix I noticed right away. It's a bit of a club banger, but not overly cheesy as most club bangers tend to be.  Standouts for me are the percussion, the use of the vocal track, and the fun feeling the song exudes. Enjoy!

Constant Conversations (Remix)

When I first heard the original of this track two things popped into my head. 1.) I love it. 2.) I can't wait to hear some fantastic remixes of this track. So I wrote a post and waited for a decent remix to emerge. The song isn't dramatically different, but it is far more electrified and epic sounding. The ebb and flow of this track is far more pronounced. The soft wide synths added have been done just right. Enjoy!

Casanova

Labor Day unofficially marks the end of summer, but here in SF the fall is when our summer starts.  To me, this is a summer song, though it can be enjoyed year round. The original R&B track shines through, but the builds, breakdowns, and overall beach energy increases are just what summers are about. Enjoy!

Fallin'

I dismissed this track before I even clicked on it. In my normal life I would have skipped right over a remix by someone I don't recognize, of a 10 year old top 40 R&B song.

Somehow It wasn't a normal day in my life, and magically I gave it a whirl. Needless to say I noticed who did the remix soon after, and have been enjoying this track quite a bit. The style is reminiscent of XXYYXX, who we blogged a bit ago here.  The sizzling synths and slight pauses that accentuate the genius of the original are spot on. Enjoy!

Jackie Junior

Sally's original track is titled Jackie Jackie. I enjoy the original, and I completely adore the remix.  The slowness matched with that bouncing bass synth is fantastic. Her softly spoken vocals outlining her low self esteem and worth resonate with my, and bring back the saddest of sad relationship moments. Enjoy!

Phantom 1.5

L'efance has put down a silky smooth rendition of Justice's in your face high energy rocker, Phantom 1.5. I love how the strings and voices work together to build up the song.  The song is somewhat of an epic track, but manages to be so without the scream for adrenaline. Enjoy!

5:55

Metronomy takes a sexy song and makes it sexier.  This song feels like it's at 49 bpm, super slow and super perfect.  The bass is so deep that you probably won't hear it on  your $2 white earbuds, so find a decent system to jam this to. Hearing her voice almost whisper the lyrics "5:55, no sleep tonight" sends tingles down my spine. Enjoy!

Learnalilgivinanlovin'

Passion Pit delivers a number on Gotye's already solid track. At about three and a half minutes in to the song you're taken through hyperspace at ludicrous speed. Also of note the tribal drums deliver on this track as well. Enjoy!

Tthhee Ppaarrttyy

The beautiful thing about a remix, reboot, remake, or even cover is the infinite possibilities to experience the same thing, differently. Justice's original track includes vocals from Uffie, and a much slower tempo. This remix speeds things up, and almost masks the original song for the first half. Mid song you're reminded slightly that this is a remix, and you've been here before, even though you haven't. Enjoy!

Lights

Adrien Mezsi produces a solid remix (or reboot) of Ellie's already great track, 'Lights'. There is something magical about Ellie's voice over a solid dance beat. This one in particular has strong dance floor energy, with dramatic builds, breaks, and vocals. Enjoy!

Whirring

Hearing her mysterious voice singing "all these things about me you never can tell" really makes this song stand out to me. The Innerpartysystem remix really adds a strong and bold 4-on-the-floor beat to an already rockin' song. The electric guitar synth at the top of the breakdown moves the crowd, it makes me want to jump up and down.  Finally, a shout out to the sounds of coins (I think) falling to the ground, it's somewhat of a Pink Floyd like "money" element. Enjoy!

Sister Wife

I can't make up my mind which I prefer, the original Alex Winston or the Star Slinger remix. So I've gone and posted both! I like to just post one song per day, but there's no rule that says I can't do two songs once in a while!

I love catchy chorus of this track. The slowed down Star Slinger remix adds quite a nice kick drum and a more separated electronic sound. Enjoy!
